Haunted houses and trails in and around Charlotte aren’t for the faint at heart. Here are several spots that offer some thrills within one hour or less from Charlotte.

Note: Most haunted houses and trails happen on the weekends, and, of course, Halloween, unless otherwise stated. Call or check websites to verify times.

Booger Jim’s Hollow

278 Doolittle St., Blacksburg, S.C.
Select nights through Oct. 31. Fri.-Sat., 7 p.m.-midnight; Sun.-Mon., 7-10:30 p.m.
Cost: $25 for admission to all three attractions: Haunted House, Doll House, and Haunted Trail. No-touch medallions, $5; fast passes, $10; hay ride, $3 per carload. RIP pass is $35 for everything on the ticket menu.


725 Phaniel Church Rd., Rockwell
Oct. 13-14, 20-21 & 27-28.
Cost: $30. All tickets are fast pass. Timed tickets are available onsite for same-day admission starting at 2 p.m. Cash only.

The Haunted Pyramids

2745 Toney Rd., Lawndale
Fridays and Saturdays from Sept. 29-Oct. 31. 7:30 p.m.-midnight.
Cost: $30 general admission, $45 VIP admission, includes all five attractions: The Haunted Pyramids, The Abandoned, Carnival of Terror, Monster Mill and Dr. Venom’s Snake Pit. The Munsters-themed escape room, 1313 Mockingbird Maze, is $5. $60 season pass is valid all open dates.

Hickory Grove Haunted Trail

4064 Mountain View St., Gastonia
Open every Friday and Saturday from Sept. 22-Oct. 31; open select weeknights. Fri.-Sat., dark-midnight; weeknights, dark-10 p.m.
Cost: $20.

Hillside Horror

2122 Hoots Rd., Roaring River
Every Friday-Saturday through Nov. 4. Gates are open from 7:30-11 p.m.
Cost: Spooky Hayride: $10; Haunted Woods/Corn Maze, $20; Trail and hayride, $25. Midway of Madness attractions vary in price; tickets are available onsite only.
Not recommended for small children, those with health issues and pregnant women.

Kersey Valley Spooky Woods

1615 Kersey Valley Rd., Archdale
Select nights Sept. 23-Nov. 4. Fri.-Sat., dark until 11 p.m; Sun.,-Mon. dark until 10 p.m.
Cost: Tickets start at $25 and vary by night.
Not recommended for guests under age 12.

Lake Hickory Haunts

520 Carolina Ave., Hickory
Select nights through Nov. 4; times vary by night. Tickets prices vary. Online purchase is suggested. Fast and VIP passes are available.

Maze of Terror

5980 Woodlead Rd., China Grove
Fridays and Saturdays from Sept. 29-Oct. 28, plus Oct. 31, 7:30 -11 p.m.
Cost: $25, cash only.

Reaper’s Realm Haunted Farm and Trail

5980 Woodleaf Rd., Salisbury
Select nights Sept. 23-Oct. 31. Ticket sales start at 6:30 p.m.
Cost: $25; $30 on Saturday nights. $5 parking. Cash only.

Cost: Tickets starting at $44.99. Fright & Fast Lane tickets are $89—bypass the lines on 25+ rides and mazes.

Scarrigan Farms

Cost: $20-$40. Advance reservations required. Cash only.
Ages 12+.

The 13th Acre Haunt

Aw Shucks Farm, 3718 Plyler Mill Rd., Monroe
Select nights through Oct. 31. Gates open at 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $25-$65.
Not recommended for kids 12 and younger.
